The ISD14B20X is a single-chip multiple-message record/playback device from the ISD14B00 ChipCorder series. It operates on a supply voltage of 2.4V to 5.5V and supports an operating temperature range of 0°C to +50°C. The sampling frequency is selectable from 4 kHz to 12 kHz via an external resistor (Rosc), determining a maximum recording duration of 32 seconds at 4 kHz. The device features dual operating modes: Address Mode, which allows flexible message duration definition via start and end address pins, and Direct Mode, which configures up to eight similar duration messages for random access. It includes differential microphone inputs with automatic gain control (AGC) and a feed-through mode. Audio output is provided by differential Class-D PWM speaker drivers or a single-ended voltage output.
Verify the specific derivative suffix against the datasheet to confirm audio output configuration, as SP+ may function as either a positive Class-D PWM signal or a single-ended AUX voltage output depending on the variant. Ensure the selected Rosc resistor value aligns with the required sampling frequency and duration specifications for the ISD14B20 memory size.
Select the ISD14B20X when a maximum recording duration of 32 seconds at 4 kHz is sufficient. Choose between Address Mode for variable-length messages or Direct Mode for up to eight equal-length messages. Confirm the need for differential Class-D output versus single-ended voltage output based on the target speaker interface requirements.
The ISD14B20X belongs to the ISD14B00 series, which also includes variants with larger memory capacities such as the ISD14B40 and ISD14B80. All series members share identical pinouts and operational modes, differing primarily in total memory rows and resulting maximum recording durations. The ISD14B20 provides 128 memory rows.
