The LM2903 is a dual low-power voltage comparator designed for single-supply operation over a wide voltage range, typically +2 V to +36 V, or dual supplies of ±1 V to ±18 V. It features very low supply current (0.4 mA) independent of supply voltage and low input bias current (25 nA typical). The input common-mode voltage range includes the negative rail, even with single-supply operation. Output saturation voltage is low (250 mV typical at IO = 4 mA), and the differential input voltage range equals the supply voltage. Outputs are compatible with TTL, DTL, ECL, MOS, and CMOS logic families.
Verify manufacturer origin as STMicroelectronics is the primary source; Shenzhen Slkormicro may distribute equivalents. Confirm package type (SOIC-8, DIP-8, etc.) and temperature grade against design requirements. Check for AEC-Q100 automotive qualification if used in vehicle applications. Ensure datasheet matches specific suffix variants for electrical tolerances like input offset voltage.
Select based on required supply voltage range and input common-mode specifications. Consider input offset voltage tolerance if precision is critical. Verify output drive capability and compatibility with downstream logic levels. Evaluate thermal performance for high-temperature environments. Compare supply current consumption against power budget constraints.
The LM2903 belongs to the LM29xx series of operational amplifiers and comparators from STMicroelectronics. It is functionally similar to the LM393 but offers improved performance characteristics such as lower input offset voltage and better temperature stability. The device is widely used in general-purpose analog signal conditioning and switching applications.
LM393 is a pin-compatible alternative with slightly higher input offset voltage. LM2903W offers enhanced ESD protection. LM2903H supports extended operating temperatures up to 150°C. Verify electrical parameters and package dimensions before substitution.
