The MK2716S is a low-cost, low-jitter PLL clock synthesizer designed for HDTV systems. It generates 74.17582418 MHz or 74.25 MHz clocks from a 27 MHz input using analog Phase-Locked Loop techniques with zero ppm synthesis error. The device operates on a 3.3 V or 5 V ±10% supply and features an advanced sub-micron CMOS process. It provides 25 mA output drive capability at TTL levels and is packaged in an 8-pin narrow SOIC.
Verify component status as the datasheet indicates End-of-Life (EOL) for non-green parts occurred on May 13, 2010. Ensure procurement of lead-free variants (MK2716SLF) if required by current environmental regulations. Confirm availability through authorized distributors as standard stock may be limited due to obsolescence.
Select the MK2716S when a 27 MHz reference is available and precise HDTV timing is required. Use the SEL pin to determine the specific output frequency. Ensure decoupling capacitors are placed close to VDD pins to minimize lead inductance. For trace lengths over one inch, consider adding series termination resistors near the outputs.
The MK2716S belongs to the IDT HDTV Clock Synthesizer family. It is functionally similar to the 667-01 but offers selectable frequencies. For applications requiring lower jitter, such as SDI or pixel clocks, the ICS664 is recommended instead.
The MK2716SLF is the lead-free equivalent of the MK2716S. Both share identical electrical characteristics and pinouts. Verify package compatibility and ensure the replacement part meets RoHS compliance requirements.
