The Texas Instruments TVP4020AGFN is a high-performance PCI/AGP graphics processor, also known as PERMEDIA 2. It integrates 3D and 2D acceleration, MPEG1/MPEG2 video playback, an SVGA core, and a RAMDAC on a single device. Operating at 66 MHz with AGP support, it delivers up to 83 million perspective-correct texture-mapped pixels per second. The chip features a Graphics HyperPipeline architecture, supporting flexible SDRAM or SGRAM memory configurations of 2, 4, 6, or 8 Mbytes for framebuffer, localbuffer, and texture storage.
The TVP4020 represents the second generation of the PERMEDIA device family, succeeding the TVP4010. It was designed to provide enhanced flexibility, additional features, and improved performance compared to its predecessor. The component serves as a complete graphics solution for PC97 and GPC97 compliant systems, combining geometry processing, rasterization, and video output functions.
The TVP4010 is the preceding generation device within the same PERMEDIA family. Designers migrating from TVP4010 should consult Appendix F of the Programmer’s Reference Manual for specific architectural differences and compatibility adjustments.
