On August 24 local time, Malaysia’s local chip design company SkyeChip launched MARS1000, the country’s first independently developed artificial intelligence (AI) processor. According to a statement from the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA), MARS1000 is an edge AI processor fabricated with a 7-nanometer manufacturing process. It can be directly embedded into terminal devices such as automobiles and robots to complete computations locally without relying on the cloud. Fong Swee Kiang, the CEO of SkyeChip, said that this chip boasts features like high cost performance, intelligence, and high energy efficiency, and can be widely applied in scenarios such as smart agriculture, Industry 4.0, and smart cities. Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai, the chairman of MSIA, stated that in the first half of 2025, Malaysia’s exports of semiconductor and electrical and electronic products increased by 15.7% year-on-year, far exceeding the national average export growth rate of 3.8%.

In the United States, policies and corporate developments have attracted much attention. On September 8, Bloomberg reported that the United States proposed to implement annual approvals for the export of chip manufacturing materials from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix’s factories in China. This is a compromise solution aimed at preventing disruptions to the global chip supply chain. The European electronic components distribution market is facing challenges. According to the latest report from DMASS Europe, the sales volume of the European electronic components distribution market has dropped significantly by 30.2% to 3640 million euros. Among them, the semiconductor market has shrunk severely, decreasing by 38% to 2270 million euros. The sales volume of the interconnect devices, passive devices, and electromechanical components market has also declined by 12.3% to 1370 million euros. In terms of product technological innovation, SiTime announced that it will utilize its Titan platform to enter the resonator market worth $4 billion. SiTime has launched a brand-new MEMS resonator series, which aims to replace quartz solutions in Bluetooth microcontrollers, wearable devices, and Internet of Things applications. The Titan platform adopts a 0.46 x 0.46 millimeter chip-scale package. Its PCB size is seven times smaller than that of 1210 quartz crystal devices and four times smaller than that of 1008 quartz crystal devices. Moreover, it has significant advantages in aspects such as aging stability, impact resistance, and power efficiency.
