Global Electronic Component Market Trends: Memory Chips See Price Increases, U.S. Analog Chips Face Anti-dumping Investigations

Industry News News 2670

Recently, the global electronic component market has witnessed complex and changeable trends.

In the memory chip sector, the wave of price increases continues to spread. After Sandisk announced a price hike of over 10% for its products targeting all channels and consumer customers, Micron also informed its channels that the prices of its storage products would go up by 20% – 30% and stopped quoting prices for all DDR4, DDR5 and other storage products. Western Digital also announced on September 12 that it would gradually raise the prices of all its hard disk products. This round of price increases for storage products is mainly driven by the growing storage demands in artificial intelligence applications as well as in data centers, the client side and the mobile field. Large North American cloud service providers have been continuously increasing their investment in server construction, fueling strong procurement demands for memory chips and resulting in a supply shortage in the market.

Meanwhile, there is a new development regarding Samsung Electronics in the memory chip aspect. According to the news on September 16, due to performance issues caused by defects, the commercialization of Samsung’s V9 QLC NAND flash memory will be postponed until the first half of 2026.

In addition, the U.S. electronic component market is facing new challenges. The Ministry of Commerce has announced the initiation of an anti-dumping investigation into the imported relevant analog chips originating from the United States, which involves general interface and gate driver chips manufactured using a process technology of 40nm and above that are imported from the United States. The relevant U.S. manufacturers include Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), Broadcom, and ON Semiconductor. The preliminary evidence submitted by the applicants shows that from 2022 to 2024, the cumulative import volume of the products under investigation from the United States increased by 37%, while the cumulative import price dropped by 52%, and the dumping margin of exports to China was as high as over 300%.

In Europe, the electronic component market also has corresponding developments. The market size of the European readout integrated circuit (ROIC) is expected to grow from $700 million in 2022 to $1.4 billion in 2033, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.6% from 2026 to 2033. The increasing investment in military-grade sensors and space exploration in Europe has driven the demand for high-reliability ROICs. Meanwhile, the progress in CMOS imaging technology has also improved its performance in medical imaging and infrared detection.
