The Hoffman AEK460 is an electrical interlock solenoid designed for use with door latching mechanisms on industrial enclosures. It operates at 460VAC and 60Hz, with a current draw of 0.025A. The unit features a steel construction with a zinc-plated finish, ensuring durability in heavy industrial environments. It provides positive internal safety lockout when energized, preventing the door handle from being turned to open the enclosure while equipment is active.
Verify voltage compatibility (460VAC/60Hz) against existing control circuits before installation. Ensure the target enclosure model supports the AEK series interlocks. Confirm that the wiring configuration allows the energized interlock to mechanically prevent door opening. Check for required accessories such as strike plates or mounting hardware not included with the solenoid assembly.
Select the AEK460 specifically for applications requiring 460VAC operation at 60Hz. For 230VAC systems, consider the AEK230 model, and for 115VAC systems, the AEK115 model. This component is strictly an electrical interlock solenoid and does not include the mechanical latch or strike components, which must be sourced separately based on the specific enclosure type.
The AEK series includes models AEK115, AEK230, and AEK460, differentiated by operating voltage. These interlocks are part of Hoffman's safety solutions for NEMA-rated enclosures. They function by engaging a mechanical block within the latch mechanism when power is applied, ensuring personnel safety by preventing access to live electrical components.
Direct replacements depend on voltage requirements. The AEK230 serves as the 230VAC equivalent, and the AEK115 as the 115VAC equivalent. Ensure the physical dimensions and mounting interface match the existing enclosure latch system. Verify that the new unit maintains the same continuous duty rating and locking force characteristics.
